questions for Chisty

OK Ladies, I'm due anyday and bored so here's to boredom.

I loved this book. I'm a huge fan of the pioneer lifestyle anyway and love the reality that this book gives to that. I love that Christy feels like she is going back in time and through the experience opens her eyes to see not only the reality, but the beauty. I love the growth and personal development.

1. Which character did you find yourself drawn to?
I found myself drawn to Christy of course. As I said before I loved her journey, but I also loved the peace and quiet wisdom of Alice Henderson. I appreciated so much her honesty in all things and her desire to stand up for her beliefs no matter what. I also loved the descriptions of Fairlight. It made me want to be that kind of mom. One who knows when to work hard and when to take a moment to enjoy the beauty around her.

2. Which character transformation did you enjoy most?
I have to say, I enjoyed the character transformation of Bird's Eye the most. I was so surprised by his willingness to work and give up his hatred. I love the role Opal played in that and how she accepted the love of the Savior to clear her hatred and allow her to see Bird's Eye with love. That was so beautiful!

3. What theme struck you most?
I think I was most struck with how love given allows you to receive and see people clearly. It even started to clear the hatred and grudges. That is truly the power of love! I also really enjoyed the journey of self. How each of us have to come to ourselves on our own. Nobody can tell us why we are here, or what we are to do, it has to come from us. David is the perfect example of allowing others to determine his belief and life and how unhappy and unsatisfied he is because of it.

I loved the description of the mountains. It reminded me of Anne of Green Gables in that the beauty was tangible. It made me want to wander in nature and drink it in.
5. Did you agree with the twist in the end?
I personally was really glad that it was Dr. McNeil who calls Christy back. The seed of faith planted is so powerful. I felt the strength of Dr McNeil and knew that he would grow with Christy. David was still too caught up in what everyone else thought. I did like the twist in the end. I was sad that Fairlight dies, but felt kind of relieved that Lundy did. He was not my favorite character. I'm sure he could have been redeemed as well, but I didn't need that with his father's transformation!

1. Which character did you find yourself drawn to?

Alice Henderson - something about her complete lack of guile and the pure love she was able to give to those around her, even when she did not agree with what they were doing. That type of love changes people - it changed Christy, as she would have given up in the beginning without Alice's patience and understanding.

2. Which character transformation did you enjoy most?
I have to say that I really grew to love Ida. (Although Bird's Eye's transformation was great as well.) She was such a side character, but I love how that in the face of adversity she served and even grew to love so many that she had disapproved of beforehand.

3. What theme struck you most?
I was blown away all throughout the book at how the aurthor must have a wonderful understanding of her relationship with God and truly understand His teachings. The way she wove in the theme of how the message of Christ is love (aka:Charity, the pure love of Christ) and how we are changed only when we accept his love and love others.

I have to say that when I first started this book, I was a little sceptacle. The Prolouge did not hook me at all. However, once I really met the girl Christy, I was thouroughly intrigued and ended up just loving this book!

5. Did you agree with the twist in the end?

Yes. If it had been David, I would have been angry. They did not love each other in the way that would have made them a good pair.

Early on I started thinking that I hoped the doctor and Christy got together, and even got a little nervous that it wouldn't happen when I was so close to the end without it. I guess I had to wait until the last page :).

I'm so glad you liked it Lisa! I forgot about Ida, you're right she did grow and in such a positive way.
