The Princess and the Hound Questions

Hi ladies! Sorry for the slightly late post, so I will dive right in!

1. The book is billed as a 'Beauty and the Beast' retelling, do you agree? Did you like the twist in roles?

2. How did you feel about the male point of view? Did it enhance or detract from your enjoyment of the story?

3. Who was your favorite character?

I'll post my answers in the comments. I know the questions aren't 'deep' but it was a light, enjoyable read. Besides, I am sure we are excited for May and our next book.

Happy Reading!

1. I do see it as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but, it wasn't my favorite. Beauty by Robin McKinley has been my favorite so far. I did like that the roles were reversed, but it didn't connect with me in the way I had hoped after reading the back of the book.

2. In the beginning, I hated the male point of view. I kept waiting for it to shift to the female and found the chapters about his childhood slow, although, important as I kept reading. Once I realized that it was going to stay in the POV, I warmed up to the story and enjoyed it. I think I would still enjoy a female POV in this particular fairy tale retelling.

3. My favorite character was actually Beatrice while she was the hound. I thought she did a good job of projecting her human's emotions and actually enjoyed her abrasive responses to things.

Hi - I tried to get the book to read, but not only did my library not have it, but the bookstore didn't either. Instead, I read another book by the author called "Mira Mirror." It was a Snow White spinoff, told from the perspective of the mirror, who was the witch's sister whom she turned into the magic mirror. It was rather dark, and reminded me somewhat of Greggory Maguire's books. Did you feel the same about this book? Wish I could have added to the real discusion.

I actually really enjoyed this book. I didn't really get the beauty and the beast thing, but really enjoyed the unique story. As far as the male pov, I thought it was great. So much better than the dragon one we read before. I thought the author kept it masculine but not too much! I did find it hard to become emotionally involved with any of the characters. I think the prince was actually my favorite character. I really enjoyed the growth and progress of his character.
It was a good read.
